Recently I saw an article on what was in the President's ipod. I don't know why I even cared, but I did feel drawn to read the article.
Now I don't know why you would care, or if you would even think it was interesting for whatever reason, but I thought I would try this same thing and share with you all what Thomas keeps in his ipod.
First I have to clarify that I don't really have an ipod proper. I did, at one time, but I took it back for technical reasons, I didn't like the file structure.
I exchanged it for a 20 GB iRiver MP3 Player, which I am very happy with. I even have the three year extended warranty.
One thing I have a problem with is pirated music. I know a lot of people steal music, but I have my own copyrights registered with the Library of Congress and I just feel that if I want people to respect those (yes I do), then I need to respect other people's. So everything that is on here is bought outright or public domain or added with permission of the author.
That said, here is what is on it...
First is a Bible. The entire Bible, Old and New Testaments, in the NKJV version. This was the reason I bought the iRiver to begin with, was so I could listen. After all, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing from the Word of God." So says Romans.
Along with the Bible, there is praise. A lot of praise. Praise is like hymns for the 21st century. Some of the old school people find it to be blasphemous. Let them feel that way. If the old hymns draw them nearer to God, then that's great. As for me, I don't like none of them funeral marches, because I ain't dead yet.
Along with the praise, there are teachings. I have some of the greats. A.W. Tozer, Katherine Kuhlman, Kenneth & Lynette Hagin (I just love the teachings they did on Healing Scriptures and Peace Scriptures. I listen to these over and over), Charles Stanley, Keith Green, and three of my friends, JoAnn McFatter and Dale & Vicki Sides.
Aside from all the spiritual stuff, there is room for other things...
For example, I have a lot of OTR audio drama. 89 episodes of Dragnet, 84 episodes of Green Hornet, 105 episodes of Sherlock Holmes, 153 episodes of Superman, 117 episodes of the Shadow. I have the complete sets of all of these, but only so much will fit in at once. Also on here is the complete series of Blue Beetle (which I am thinking I don't really like.) OTR is deleted one file at a time as I listen to it, which is usually when I am on the treadmill at the YMCA.
I have every one of the "Power Records" stories ever made. (I have some of them for download, you can get them right here.)
Along with this is some very hard to find audio drama from the 60's and 70's with Superman, Batman (look out! Joker has a utility belt of his own!), Batgirl, Captain America, Justice League, Fantastic Four, and Wonder Woman (she gets turned to stone. ACK!) among others.
I have a lot of the BBC audio drama, like say Spider-Man, Superman, and Dr. Who.
Also several audiobooks from www.audiobooksforfree.com, These are free, yes, but I paid for mine to get the higher quality recordings.
I have some secular music, Connie Deming's Butterflies album (I once borrowed her guitar to play a song at a conference), Jeanne Lyon's Gather Stars For Your Children (this was a gift from Jeanne Lyons), Townes Van Zandt's Live From The Old Quarter, and Dylan's 30th Anniversary, among others. I also have a folder full of oldies. It has 116 songs in it at present, more are added frequently.
Finally there is the "Thomas" folder. This is where I keep all the recorded teachings I have done. I like to go back and listen to then on occasion to see what I did wrong, so I can fix it, and also to see what I did right, so I can do it again next time around. Also in the Thomas folder is a "White Noise" folder that I use to hold sounds to play at night to get me to sleep.
Right now I have plenty of the nature sounds, like the ocean, frogs, a waterfall, things like that. Though lately I have been listening to my friend, Vicki, speaking in tongues. This was lifted from a teaching she did at Lion of Judah Ministries. Regardless of how one feels about this practice, the sounds of speaking tongues are excellent for getting you to sleep when they are played softly.
Each file is one hour long, sixty minutes exactly, and the sound is ramped down slowly on each file during the last 3 to 5 minutes. I have been looking for other things to record as white noise, and when I get a few original quality recordings, maybe I can post them here for download. If nothing else, it may help some autistic kids get to sleep sooner.
All of this leaves me with over 5 GB yet to fill.
And that's what is on my MP3
player.
